Because it's like a pan with a dent in it. Any loaf baked in that pan will have that same dent. Adam/Eve are the pan, sin is the dent, and you are the bread. You were born dented. At least that's how it was explained when I was in. It never sat right with me that I should be made to pay for someone else's mistake and was one of the first teachings that started to wake me up.

by looter inso jws believe all humans have faults, problems, birth pangs, etc., because we all inherited sin from the original human being adam.
like i would like this to make since but why would jehovah do this to future humans who have done nothing wrong at all?
i think of it like if a parent has one child and that child really disobeyed her before then when the parent has a second child, she punishes that child because of what her first did.

I feel frustrated
by BlackWolf inhello all, things for the most part have been somewhat better for me because my parents haven't talked about baptism or anything recently.
i got a scholarship to go to art camp for a few weeks which has been fun (since its free, my parents didn't refuse) but it has also been very nervewracking for me.
i haven't been around any non jws for more than a year and its like being in a different world, a world where people are actually real and genuine and not mindless drones.

What exactly do you say when they ask to hang out with you? If you are telling them you can't be friends they may be interpreting it as you don't want to be friends which can be offensive. But why are they threatening to tattle to your father?
You don't have to go into a lot of detail. Just say your parents are super strict because of your religion and emphasize that it is NOT your choice.

My ad blocker is disabled for this site, but I've seen the donation popups too (though mine are blue not green) so I doubt it's related to that.
I don't mind ads in general as long as they aren't too intrusive and affect the readability of the page. Sometimes I get an ad for Russian/Asian/Muslim brides that I report as inappropriate, but at least I can customize the ads I see which is nice.

Old Relative Not Happy About Push To Use Ipads Etc
by disillusioned 2 ini was in a close relatives house yesterday and she was having angry and resentful at the push to use electronic devices at the meetings.
she was talking to another relative of mine who has just got an ipad to use.
this relative of mine is very elderly and obviously prefers to use her bible and other books.

I'm getting baptized
by BlackWolf ini know i've started similar topics before but this time i'm serious.
my parents have been constantly pressuring me and after yesterday's watchtower study they asked me if i was going to be baptized this summer... and i said yes.
i probably should have thought about it more before making a final decision, but they're pretty much forcing me to do it anyway.

Ugh. That gives me flashbacks to the evening witnessing I was forced to do as a kid. Do they still do that? Screwed my whole day up. I preferred Saturday mornings where we got out and got it done and over with.
Has anyone ever been converted due to phone witnessing or letter writing? My mom searches the newspaper obits for addresses of the deceased to send JW junk mail and she's done this for years, maybe decades by now. To my knowledge she has never started a bible study this way. Why are preaching methods that are clearly ineffective still being encouraged? The cynical part of me thinks it's less about making converts and more about numbers and phone/letter witnessing are easy ways to rack up lots of time.
